Prepare for a Spooky Springtime: The Conjuring 3 is Coming This June!

We all love a good springtime spook sesh, right? That’s what seems to be coming our way with the Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It, which will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on June 4th.

The third installment of the Conjuring series is sure to tug on all the nostalgic, days-of-yore heartstrings, as it’s set in the early 1980s in Brookfield, Connecticut. The film is based on the real-life 1981 murder case in which defendant, Arne Cheyenne Johnson, 19, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter after stabbing his 40-year-old landlord more than 20 times.

The case became famous after Johnson stated “the devil made me do it” in regards to the murder. He claimed that he was possessed by a demon after an exorcism was performed on his fiancée’s brother, in which the demon was expelled from the young boy and then entered into Johnson’s body.

At Johnson’s trial, witnesses who were present at the boy’s exorcism testified that they saw the demon transfer from the boy to Johnson, after Johnson allegedly told the demon to “leave my little buddy alone.”

Johnson went on to serve only five years of his 10 to 20 year prison sentence and was often touted as an “exemplary” inmate.

The Conjuring 3 is directed by Michael Chaves and will star Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (who were demonologists in real life). Chaves said that this will be the “biggest” installment of the Conjuring series to date.
