Let me set the scene. You’ve just settled down with your significant other for date night. Maybe you put the kids to bed, you’ve poured a glass of wine, and you made a charcuterie board (we love seeing your charcuterie boards!) to snack on as you work through a Hunt A Killer episode together.
There’s one problem. How do you get started? It can feel overwhelming when you first open your Hunt A Killer box. There’s a lot of evidence to sort through, ciphers to crack, and notes to take. So what’s the best way to dive in to ensure that you and your partner are on the right path to solving the objective?
We asked the awesome detectives in our Hunt A Killer Facebook community and they came through with some great answers. Check them out below! And as always, if you have any more questions, feel free to join our Facebook community and/or email our customer service team at sam@huntakiller.com.
5 Date Night Strategies:
Stick to your strengths.
We like to go over each piece of evidence one by one. We stick to our strengths and let the other take the lead in that way. I'm really good at reading and highlighting important info. So I read aloud and take notes. He is really good at ciphers and paying attention to detail. So he takes the lead on figuring out ciphers and goes over the notes I take to help make connections. Then we talk about our theories and see what works and what doesn't based on everything we've gathered as a team. It's been such a great exercise in respect and communication. - Keyanna
2. Take turns reading out loud.
My husband hates ciphers, so I take those on, but once discovered we share transcribing. We take turns reading items aloud. My husband really likes coming up with theories, and I do the 'okay, but where is the evidence?' It has been so much fun. We're obsessed. -Marcia
3. Assign a note-taker.
He reads everything out loud, and I take notes. Sometimes we do the ciphers as we go, sometimes we save them for after we've been through everything. I run the computer, and he reviews my notes and asks questions. He makes the drinks . - Heather
4. Divide and conquer.
I’m an OCD English teacher and he’s an ADHD math whiz, so he has more difficulty with all of the reading but is a master at the ciphers. We unbox everything, then we divide and conquer! I read everything and highlight (and, of course, hang on the wall with a corresponding pushpin color...different for each episode...(GEEK!) When I come across a cipher, I highlight it and pass it over to him. Then we come together and break it down. There is a lot of quiet time because we’re both so focused on our tasks, LOL. I also run the white board. I know a lot of people use binders, but we both need it in front of us to back-reference. - Lisa
5. Snacks are a must.
We do the full experience. Music, drinks, snacks. Then we take turns reading the evidence and help each other with the cyphers. Once we find the cipher key the other reads off the scrambled cipher letter by letter. - Creig
